1996: In 1996, the ACNFP considered the safety of processed food products obtained from GM maize line T25, modified to confer tolerance to the herbicide glufosinate (see Annex 2 of the ACNFP's 1996 Annual Report). The Committee concluded that food products from this line were as safe, for food use, as those obtained from conventional maize.
Papers related to these discussions can be accessed in the sections below.
Further molecular characterisation data
Since the ACNFP first considered the safety of T25 maize in 1996, Aventis has continued to update the molecular characterisation data on this line. This information was submitted to the ACNFP for consideration at its 50th, 52nd and 53rd meetings.
Nutritional impact assessment report
The ACNFP’s original assessment of T25 maize requested that the seed composition of the GM maize be monitored over time, to demonstrate the stability of the line and to determine any possible effect of genetic drift on the plant’s metabolism.
