The ACNFP’s original assessment of T25 maize requested that the seed composition of the GM maize be monitored over time, to demonstrate the stability of the line and to determine any possible effect of genetic drift on the plant’s metabolism.
The Company supplied these data in September 2002, which the Committee considered by post and at 58th meeting in November. The Committee was satisfied that the majority of components measured in the T25 seed fell within standard reference ranges for maize and that any statistically significant differences found between the transgenic and non-transgenic lines were not of biological significance when viewed in the context of the normal ranges.
The appendices to the Nutritional Impact Assessment Report are large files, but can be requested by emailing the ACNFP.
